6)Even newer furniture can be painted white or off white so as to give it an aged look. Adding a crackle finish to furniture, especially furniture with intricate detail and curves, works well for a romantic style home.  When you add Ivory and white together with a light gold, it has the effect of giving a room a soft romantic tone.  This is true too when you add smaller decorating elements such as a lamp and lampshade with these qualities.  Try starting with a small area, then expand out and let the romantic theme broaden throughout your room or even your entire home.

  5) If you want to create a romantic cottage look, look closely at fabric…it’s a key element. Think especially of floral fabrics, they can feature small or large flowers, gardens, or greenery.  They can be incorporated into throw pillows, fabric runners, tablecloths, bed coverings, bedside table coverings, cushions, wall art, blankets, quilts, window fashions, kitchen towels, placemats, and napkins… so many things. Floral fabrics used on Victorian lampshades create the English cottage look in a unique way.  Your room will be lit up with these illuminated flowers as will the rest of your décor.  So don’t be afraid to use bold flowers in creating your unique room!
